Hey there, my name’s Trever.

My creative journey began with playing the guitar. A challenging skill to learn, but one that opened the door to some of the most rewarding experiences of my life thus far. I played in a heavy metal band called As the Sky Darkens in which we created a full-length album and toured the western United States multiple times. Through it all, playing the guitar taught me the power of creating something uniquely my own and sharing it with others.

Eventually, that chapter of my life came to a close. After graduating from college with a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science and a minor in Mathematics, I left the band and stepped into the workforce as a software engineer.

The stability of a corporate career had its benefits, but over time, something felt off. I loved software engineering for a lot of the same reasons I loved composing music. I could create something all my own and share it with others. However, in the corporate environment I was in, that creativity often felt stripped away. The thirst to create, like I once did with my guitar, kept growing until I couldn’t ignore it any longer.

That’s when I embarked on a new adventure: developing a video game called The Path of Ren. After four years of intense work, I’m finally starting to plan out its release!

The process of creating a video game has taught me more than I ever expected. About hard skills like programming, art, and design. About soft skills like storytelling and articulating ideas. But most of all, about myself and the importance of working on a project I’m passionate about.

A great idea starts as a drop of inspiration, but just as the rain shapes the earth, it’s the consistent nurturing, effort, and perseverance that shapes that idea into something extraordinary.

Shaped by Rain Studios is my solo venture that exists to help other driven, creative people build projects they’re passionate about through practical education, tools, and thought-provoking content.

I hope the things that I create will help you in your own creative endeavors!
